Bryan Champion, a 35-year-old black man, was fatally shot Tuesday, Dec. 4, in the 600 block of East University Drive in Carson, according to Los Angeles County coroner's records.
Champion was sitting in a car about 7 p.m. when a vehicle drove up alongside him, a person exited and began shooting at the car, said Ed Winter, spokesman for the coroner's office.
Authorities were called, and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:17 p.m.
Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department homicide Det. E. Brown, who is handling the case, said the shooting occurred in the parking lot of a strip mall. No arrests have been made in connection with the case.
The shooter was described as a male black in his 20s with light skin. He was wearing a dark blue sweatshirt, Brown said.
The incident is believed to be gang-related.
